Method
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl or jar and stir until evenly blended.
Use immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool, dry cupboard for up to six months.
Stir or shake the seasoning before using.
How to Use It
Brown 1 pound (450 g) of ground beef, turkey or chicken in a skillet, then drain any excess fat if needed.
Sprinkle the entire batch of taco seasoning over the cooked meat. Add ⅓ cup of water, stir well and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, until the liquid has reduced and the meat is evenly coated.
Melissa's Notes
This recipe replaces approximately one store-bought taco-seasoning packet.
The cornstarch lightly thickens the sauce and helps the seasoning cling to the meat. You can leave it out when using the blend as a dry seasoning.
Omit the cayenne for a mild, family-friendly seasoning.
For a smokier flavour, replace the regular paprika with smoked paprika.
Double or triple the recipe to keep a larger batch in your pantry. Use approximately 3 tablespoons per pound of meat.
