Soft, buttery, and filled with juicy baked plums, this rustic plum cake is the perfect cozy dessert for late summer and fall baking. Warm cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice give the cake a comforting bakery-style flavour, while the cinnamon sugar topping adds a delicate crisp finish over the caramelized fruit. Simple, beautiful, and incredibly comforting — perfect with coffee, tea, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.

Cinnamon Sugar Topping
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch ceramic pie plate, cake pan, or springform pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, mixing just until smooth. The batter will be fairly thick.
Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
Arrange the plums over the batter in overlapping circles or rustic rows, skin side up.
Brush the tops of the plums lightly with melted butter.
In a small bowl, combine the coarse sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the plums and cake batter.
Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is fully set.
Allow the cake to cool before slicing and serving.
Melissa's Notes
The batter will be thick — that's normal. The plums release their juices as they bake, keeping the cake beautifully moist. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra cozy treat.
